How we rate
Dog-friendly means more than dogs allowed
A place can welcome dogs without necessarily being a great place to visit with one.
At Paw Rated, we believe the details matter.
A warm welcome, comfortable surroundings, thoughtful facilities and a good experience for the humans can all make a difference.
That’s why our assessments look beyond the simple question of whether dogs are permitted.
What we look for
A genuine welcome
How welcoming is the experience for dogs and their owners? Are staff friendly and accommodating? Are the rules clear and reasonable?
Comfort and facilities
Is there enough room to settle comfortably? Are water bowls or other useful facilities available? Can dogs join you indoors, outdoors or both?
The overall experience
Is this somewhere you’d genuinely enjoy spending time? We consider atmosphere, comfort, service and the experience for people as well as their dogs.
Location and surroundings
Are there walks, green spaces or other worthwhile places to explore nearby? Is the venue conveniently located for a dog-friendly day out?
Would we return?
Perhaps the simplest question of all: knowing what we know now, would we happily visit again?

Our different types of listing
Personally Paw Rated
These are places we’ve visited and assessed ourselves.
We explain what we’ve experienced, what worked well and anything we think visitors should know.
Our assessments represent our experience at the time of visiting.
Researched listings
We also include useful information about places we haven’t yet personally assessed.
These listings help you discover more options, but they don’t carry a Paw Rated firsthand assessment unless we’ve actually completed one.
Where practical, we identify when information was last checked and encourage you to confirm important details directly with the venue.
Our commitment to independence
We want you to be able to trust what you read.
Our editorial assessments are not for sale. Businesses cannot purchase a better Paw Rated score or pay to have legitimate criticism removed.
We may work with businesses through advertising, sponsorship, affiliate partnerships or hosted experiences, but relevant commercial relationships will be clearly disclosed.
Where a visit or experience has been provided free of charge or at a discount, we’ll explain that too.
Commercial relationships do not determine our editorial conclusions.
Things change
A venue’s policies, facilities, prices, management and overall experience can change.
We’ll aim to keep our information accurate and useful, but we cannot guarantee that every detail will remain current.
Before travelling, particularly for a special occasion or a longer journey, we recommend checking essential arrangements directly with the venue.
Found something we should know about?
Perhaps a venue has changed its dog policy. Maybe a facility is no longer available, or we’ve missed something important.
We welcome corrections and constructive feedback.
